We love, love this game! It's challenging and fun. It adds a whole new twist to Blokus and makes you think outside the box. I do wish that the pieces were magnetic though. -- great family fun
I collect games with excellent components, and the whole Blokus series is excellent.
Blokus 3D uses four complete sets of polycubes -- all the ways to put together 2, 3, or 4 cubes. Each set is a different color. All pieces are very precision-made.
To move, place a piece to touch one of your previous pieces.
To win, have the most of your color visible from above at the end of the game.
The game is well-adapted for 2-4 players, by having different sturdy frames for different games, all with different height-limits that depend on the number of players.
Strategically, a player will want to try to block off areas from the others, while invading other areas. The top visible layer is the only one that matters tactically. A nice mix. Also, every game tends to be quite different from previous games.

I found Blokus 3D to be less fun than regular Blokus. The height restrictions, in particular, were difficult to visualize, making the game run slower. This might be overcome with practice, but it lead to an initial poor impression of the game.
As the stack grows higher it gets easier to accidentally knock the pieces around, as they don't stay together terribly well.
Ultimately, its only relation to Blokus is the name and some general aesthetic considerations. If you like Blokus, you won't necessarily like this. -- 3d doesn't make everything better
If you love original "2-D" Blokus, you'll likely love this, but for different reasons. The strategies are entirely different, and the resulting game is delightful in its own way. Different base boards make for different types of play.
Unlike original Blokus, it can be played with 2 or 3 players without having to have players play extra colors.

I bought it for my daughter's family. She and her husband played it over the holidays and had trouble putting it down. -- Very addictive!
